There is nothing quite like spending a crisp winter evening wrapped up warm and exploring a Christmas market. Colourful stalls and shop fronts, shimmering lights and the heady scents of the season are the perfect way to get into the Christmas mood. But have you ever tried to capture the atmosphere on your phone camera? Streaky images that are either too bright or dark are often the result. If you would like to learn how to create some beautiful and vibrant Christmassy images using your smartphone camera, while, at the same time, enjoying an evening out in a festive atmosphere, we will be running some special Christmas market smartphone photography workshops in Oxford and London this November and December.
During these workshops, we will guide you around the lit-up streets to find the best shots, while showing you how to capture dark and light images and create eye-catching contrasts. To finish off the festivities, we’ll take you through the best smartphone editing tools over a warming mug of hot chocolate.

The Oxford Christmas Market takes place on Broad Street and is a beautiful traditional market with covered stalls selling local crafts, gifts and food and drink. There’s plenty of entertainment and excellent photography opportunities, with choirs and bands playing each evening. With a backdrop of historic Oxford buildings, this is a really rich and special setting to spend a festive evening out.

Carnaby Christmas Kaleidoscope
London’s Carnaby Street will be lit-up with a spectacular alternative Christmas light show through November and December. Over 600 sparkling 3D and 2D butterflies will adorn the course of Carnaby Street, creating a magical scene. The colourful kaleidoscope and beautifully decorated shop fronts make for an ideal place to try out some night-time smartphone photography in the heart of the city.
