Remember when we used to say ‘I’ve only got an iphone’ when talking about what THE camera you had? Remember when the quality wasn’t good enough to even send a photo to your granny, never mind use for any thing remotely important? Luckily times - and smartphone cameras - have changed and the quality is now so good that there is no trouble at all in shooting corporate photography on your smartphone.
Last week I had the pleasure in doing two very different corporate shoots, and one fashion shoot - all on my iphone.
The two corporate shoots were for a jewellery brand and a glamping site. Both had a brief and shot list as normal and both required the same level of professionalism and skill as a traditional shoot. Tthe only difference was the equipment used. The beauty of the jewellery shoot was that, as the photos were taken, the favourites were chosen, edited there and then, resized for the website, sent over to the web designer, who put them on the site straight way. This meant that immediate feedback was given, and if anything needed to be re-shot because it didn’t work, it could be done without delay.
For the glamping site I worked alongside the PR lady and the videographer, and again she could comment on the edited photos immediately. To be fair, I never do a lot of editing anyway, but given the ease of the editing app Snapseed and the ability to make instantaneous tweaks, it was good to get immediate feedback. It also meant that these were finalised and ready to send over pretty much straight away. (Because there wasn’t an immediate need for these, I actually culled, edited and sent them over on my way into London the next day which not only made the 30 min journey go quicker, but it also meant I didn’t have to do them at home!).
The fashion shoot was for an influencer who works with the brand Wrangler, and because it was done on the phone, she was able to pick her favourites while we had a cup of coffee at the end, as well as sending regular photos to her social media accounts as we went along. It was also very discrete on the streets of St Albans - helpful when shooting in front of people’s colourful front doors!
Other recent corporate shoots have included headshots and Personal Branding shoots, food and drink photography, as well as restaurants and hotels - all taken on an iPhone.. Jet Black Squares can either run a masterclass showing your team how to take and edit their own images, or can shoot it for you.
So, if you are needing some corporate photography, consider a smartphone photographer. Whether they do it for you, or show you how to do it yourself, you can be assured that:-
* The image quality is no problem, and is just as good as a DSLR.
* It’s easy to choose your favourites there and then.
* Images can be sent straight to your web designer/client/etc as you go along.
* Discrete shooting.
* Instant feedback.
