We have some fantastic news to announce for the coming New Year, Jet Black Squares has reached Ireland! Paul Richardson, our first Irish associate, will be offering smartphone safaris around County Sligo in the west of Ireland from the end of January.
Where will the smartphone safaris be taking place?
Paul will be offering group and 1:1 sessions in and around the stunning and diverse Sligo in West Ireland. Group tours that you can now book onto include the picturesque Doorly Park in Sligo, the harbour village of Mullaghmore, Forest Park and the shore of Lough Key in Boyle, the popular tourist destination of Rosses Point in Sligo, and Aughris Head on the Wild Atlantic Way.
No matter what session you choose, you’ll have the opportunity to capture the beauty and drama of this diverse part of Ireland while learning the key techniques of smartphone photography.
Paul’s photography background
Paul has been taking photographs for more than 40 years. From being a teenager using a YashicaMat 2 ¼ square twin lens reflex box camera to more recently getting to know his Nikon D3200 digital SLR. He worked at his father’s photography firm after leaving school, carrying out studio photography, taking portraits and point-of-sale product shots, all the while learning his way around the dark room, developing his own black and white prints.
Paul began to develop his camera-phone skills early on and enjoyed the adaptability of being able to take a camera anywhere and achieve breathtaking shots. This interest has only grown alongside the high standard of smartphone cameras available today.
Paul joins the rest of the Jet Black Squares’ team in their passion for flexible and accessible photography that is open to all. After all, we all have a camera ready to use right in our pocket!
What you will get out of a smartphone safari
“Everyone has a phone these days and lots of people like to take pictures, but they are not necessarily using the phone camera to their best. So, the Safari is designed to let them know how to be creative with their phones and take the pictures to their best quality.
“It will teach them how to improve the picture quality to a level which they can be proud of. The first part of our tours will be getting all the phones set up with the right settings and then we will spend roughly an hour or more taking photographs while walking and looking around at nature and other things around.
“Then the last part of the tour would be sitting down in a café, editing the pictures and making them even better. All these would be done on phone through a free software that can be used on both IOS and Android systems.”
