A new year has ticked around again and, as usual, we are being pushed to take up diets, gym memberships and generally restrict ourselves. But what if we added in some fun instead?
Taking up a new hobby this New Year will give you a creative outlet, help with your mental health, give you a sense of achievement, build new skills and add focus to a time of year when getting out and about isn’t very desirable.
Smartphone photography is an ideal creative hobby to try out as it requires zero outlay to get started. You already have all you need sitting in your pocket ready to use!
Easy to use smartphone camera
Today’s smartphones are really a high-quality camera with a phone attached. With this camera, you can capture incredible detail, a broad and vivid colour spectrum and adjust your camera’s contrast, focus, and brightness with a touch of a button. All of this is simple to learn, unlike a DSLR’s controls, and will allow you to take fun, creative and great looking images quickly and easily.
Affordable accessories and free apps
Once you get into your new hobby, there are a number of smartphone accessories and apps that can enhance your photography. Clip on lens sets are inexpensive and open up macro and wide-angle shots, selfie sticks can help with perspective and low to the ground shots, and mini tripods and clip on lights can give that professional touch. There are also a range of free editing apps, such as Snapseed, you can use to add the finishing touches to your photos.
How can a smartphone safari enhance my new hobby?
Our smartphone safaris are ideal for those starting out with smartphone photography or looking to gain experience in a particular genre or skill, like night time or nature photography. During the 2hr session, we will introduce you to the different functions your smartphone camera can achieve, look at various creative shots you can take, how you can use lighting, focal points and contrast, and introduce you to editing your images.
We run both group workshops and one-to-one sessions in London, Newcastle, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire, County Durham, Brighton – and shortly Manchester too!
You can find out what group safaris we have lined up over the new few months, here.
