Jet recently had the opportunity to run her smartphone photography classes for a creative retreat on the beautiful island of Skyros in Greece for Skyros Holidays.
How was it organised?
Jet ran 3 hours of smartphone photography sessions each day for 5 days, with different genres and techniques to try out each session. She also ran a stand alone ‘taster’ safari for those who hadn’t booked on to the smartphone photography sessions, so they could gain some of the skills too.
Other retreats may wish to offer single standing sessions to allow participants to experience a broad range of activities depending on their interests. Both can work really well and offer participants a host of new photography skills and, of course, lots fun too!
Expanding your retreat
The wonderful thing about smartphone photography is its accessibility. All participants had access to their own smartphone camera and sessions could easily be adapted so that everyone could participate and enjoy the session.
These sessions were also a great opportunity to leave the main site of the retreat and explore the surrounding island. Jet’s smartphone sessions are all about finding the real heart of the area, and many participants loved investigating the nooks of the villages and chatting to the locals (and even trying out their new photography skills on them!).
Enhancing your retreat
As well as the timetabled writing and photography sessions, there was also early morning yoga, Qigong, and colour therapy to enjoy as well as trips and evenings out for everyone.
Inspiring your participants
For those taking part in a creative retreat, inspiration for new material is often the aim. But gaining that inspiration can be easier said than done. This is why auxiliary activities, that take you out of the everyday, require focus, but also help you to relax, are the perfect tonic for building new ideas and finding renewed motivation.
