Location: London Bridge Run by: Jet Event: virtual, corporate smartphone safari Date: Wednesday, 25th August, 2021
I took the train down to London Bridge on Wednesday for a virtual smartphone photography workshop with a marketing team. Their business was still quite new, so the focus for this 45 minute smartphone masterclass was learning to create exciting corporate shots with an artistic flare that would help the business stand out against their competition. With most of the company working from home, this was also a chance for the team to come together and have a little fun in the process!
Sharing my screen with the group, they could see my point of view, making the experience more personal and allowing them to understand exactly how I was achieving my shots along the way. It was an ideal day for the photography workshop, with the sun peaking in and out and of the clouds making the lighting dramatic off the high-rise buildings, which lined our journey along the south bank from London Bridge to Tower Bridge.
With the Shard and Tower Bridge in clear view, we experimented with different angles, reflections and focal points, using the eateries down More London Riverside to create perspective and framing for our shots.
It still being the school holidays, the water fountains at City Hall were bustling. We worked with the water spray and light to test out exposures, bringing the London skyline in and out of focus for contrasting shots. Looking to the north bank from the Thames, I showed the team the different contrasts of light possible on the buildings opposite to create more dramatic and interesting captures than the usual corporate stock photos.
I finished the virtual smartphone photography workshop outlining the best photo editing apps available and the most useful features on them to turn everyday corporate shots into professional calibre images ready for their website and social media. It amazed the team the quality of image available on today’s smartphones, which easily compete with DSLRs, and with a lot less hassle, quicker editing and, of course, portability.
If you are looking for a virtual or in-person activity for your staff as part of an incentive or a wellbeing programme, or perhaps a way they can personally upskill to take ownership of your social media images, then a corporate smartphone photography workshop is for you.
