Paul joined as an associate with JBS last year. He lives in West Ireland with his family and runs smartphone safaris in and around the beautiful area of Sligo. We had a chat with Paul about his passion for smartphone photography and the tech he uses.
What first interested you about smartphone photography?
I have been taking photos with my smartphone ever since I have had a smartphone. My enthusiasm was rekindled when I joined JBS as it has made me look at things more creatively again.
What phone do you use?
I use an Oppo Find X5
What is your favourite feature on the phone?
The feature that drew me to the phone was the Hassalblad sensors on board. I saw this as a sign of quality as Hassalblad have been around for many years and they were the cameras my father used to use as well as the cameras they used for the moon landing in the sixties.
What’s your favourite location for photography?
My favourite location for photography is anywhere along the Wild Atlantic Way coastline, it is always changing and always scenic.
Do you have a favourite image you have taken and how did you create it?
One of my favourite pictures is this one of a rose. Quite simple in its beauty. I like it because it was a naturally beautiful subject already but I think I gave it gravitas in the editing and composition. Taken in my kitchen with natural light. I cropped it close to accentuate the petals, used Snapseed to tune the image, tweaking the brightness, contrast, saturation and ambience. Then finishing off with a vignette effect to darken the outer edges and lighten the centre.
